Gold Leaf is Expensive!
Thank you for supporting "Little Event Horizon on the Prairie"
Your contribution directly helps me continue applying gold leaf to these prairie fragments—each sheet of leaf costs $2-4, so every bit of support makes a real difference in bringing these images to completion.
I'm excited to share progress updates as pieces evolve through the leafing process. There's something magical about watching these photographic fragments transform into something both precious and fundamentally changed.
Thank you for believing in this exploration of what remains and what can be renewed.Likely Stories: A Photographic Journey through Climate Adaptations in the St. Croix Watershed.
“Likely Stories: a photographic journey through climate adaptations and resilience in the St. Croix Watershed” uses, primarily, the medium of photography to portray the challenges and successes battling climate change in the watershed of the iconic St. Croix River. Other art forms and artists are encouraged to contact us with how they would like to contribute artwork to the project. All media is considered including sculpture, painting, fabric work, puppetry, film, and writing. This visual story will be presented in gallery exhibits and for publication.
Photographers and artists Cynthia Dickinson and Pamela Sherlock co-lead the project, joined by eight other Minnesota/Wisconsin photographers with varied interests including land development, wild birds and animals, water, forests, fields, and evolving human-built environments. Scientists from the St. Croix Watershed, the Science Museum of MN and Wild Rivers Conservancy provide information about the human impact of climate change in the area and resources to help us pinpoint hot sports, challenges, and success to highlight in our photographic visions.
The scope of the project is both visual and educational. We tell the climate change stories in an understandable, emotionally accessible way focusing on proven mitigations to the worst impacts of climate change and the best emerging practices in adapting to it. As the rich ecosystem of the Saint Croix watershed struggles to withstand environmental and human stressors our images spotlight a wealth of people and organizations taking action to adapt. Through a traveling exhibit and panel discussions we also aim to raise awareness of these practices across the state of Minnesota and Wisconsin
Praxis Gallery in Minneapolis is committed to the first exhibit. A weekly blog is being discussed; Greg Sietz from Saint Croix 360 has offered his environmentally focused platform to showcase our work. A project Instagram page highlights images and key messages as the project progresses toward the curated exhibits.
